Balkan Style Part I

Balkan Style Part I

What are the Balkans anyway?

In the past – well, not even that long ago – the Balkans were more or less one country: Yugoslavia. Except for Albania, that country was disconnected from the outside world for over 50 years by the dictator Enver Hoxa.

And then in 1987 Milošević got on the throne, which resulted in a bunch of conflicts, revolutions and wars. Long story short, Yugoslavia split into Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia.

And Albania? Still disconnected. At least until the nineties.

I can strongly advise you to read the history – the long story – of these nations, so you’ll understand why I got interested to visit these countries… Several times.

The first time, in 2010, I traveled from Albania through Montenegro into Bosnia & Herzegovina.
